The Jags overrun Pats in victory

play

The Jacksonville Jaguars defended their home game against the New England Patriots on Sunday morning in London and won with a final score of 32-16.

After two early shots on goal by the Patriots, Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars scored 25 unanswered points and led 25-10. A fourth-quarter touchdown from Drake Maye to KJ Osborn increased the score to 25-16.

Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby sealed the game with a rush late in the fourth quarter, doubling the Patriots' lead 32-16. The score would hold and the Jaguars would finish at 2-5 on the season, while New England would finish at 1-6 overall.

Lawrence had one of his better performances of the 2024 season. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown. It was the strength of the Jags' offensive line and running game that made the big difference on Sunday. Jacksonville outscored the Patriots on the ground 171 yards to 38.

Both teams entered their Sunday game having experienced bad luck in the 2024 NFL season, but both teams also had completely different expectations. The Jaguars were looking to compete a year after finishing second in the AFC South and two seasons after winning the AFC.

Lawrence has taken the brunt of the blame this season, but a comfortable and controlled game could be a big boost for the newly paid passer. Lawrence and the Jags have also put some pressure on head coach Doug Pederson, whose job some have called for because of their failures this season.

Rookie Patriots QB Maye took over as QB1 from Jacoby Brissett in Week 6 and had a respectable performance: Maye threw three touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss to Houston, but showed some highlights in that effort. Maye looked confident and in control Sunday, but his 258 yards and two touchdowns just weren't enough to overcome Jacksonville's potent ground game.

USA TODAY Sports provided live updates, highlights and more from the Jaguars-Patriots Week 7 London matchup below.
