Oregon is No. 1, Alabama falls in Week 9 AP poll

For the third time this season, the AP's No. 1 team lost. Here's how that affected the latest AP poll.

Oregon is the new No. 1

Oregon is the new No. 1 team in this week's AP Poll. The Ducks are just two weeks removed from a top-five win over Ohio State and avoided a trap game against Purdue last week. After last week's top-ranked team fell – Georgia beat Texas 30-15 – Oregon moves up one spot as the top-ranked undefeated team.

Georgia, which defeated the previous No. 1 team, moved up three spots to No. 2. No. 3 Penn State and No. 4 Ohio State remained in place, while Texas fell four spots to No. 5.

Alabama falls to 15th

Alabama fell eight spots to No. 15 after losing its second game of the season. The Crimson Tide has its most losses before November since 2007, Nick Saban's first season. It's the first time since 2010 that Alabama has finished at No. 15 or lower in the AP poll.

Vanderbilt moves into this week's rankings

Michigan was the only top 25 team not in the top 10 last week to lose, causing the Wolverines to fall out of the rankings. Vanderbilt replaces Michigan and enters at No. 25 with a record of 5-2. The Commodores earned a ranked win against then-No. 1 Alabama, a three-point loss to a ranked Missouri team and a bad loss to a Georgia State team that hasn't picked up any other FBS wins. Next up for Vanderbilt is another potentially invigorating game against Texas.

At the bottom of the vote-receiving portion of the poll, Liberty remains the only undefeated, unranked team at 5-0. The Flames are ranked 32nd in the poll when the votes received are counted.
