Chiefs vs. Falcons set Sunday Night Football attendance record in Week 3

As the 2024-25 NFL season kicks off, the Kansas City Chiefs are making headlines for the third week in a row with the number of viewers watching one of their games.

This time, the two-time Super Bowl champions' performance in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons set a new record.

According to a press release from NBC, the latest Football on Sunday evening The Kansas City-Atlanta game was the fourth most simulcast NFL regular season game of all time on NBC. Between the NBC and Peacock platforms, it is also the most watched NBC Football on Sunday evening All-time game for week 3.

“Patrick Mahomes threw two winning passes and the defense stopped two fourth-quarter tackles inside the 15-yard line for the 3-0 Chiefs, while the game achieved a preliminary Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 24.8 million viewers on NBC and Peacock based on live and custom same-day Fast Nationals from Nielsen and digital data from Adobe Analytics,” the press release said. “NBC Sports' audience peaked just before halftime (9:30-9:45 p.m. ET) at 27.5 million viewers.”

That's a 20% increase from last year's Week 3 Pittsburgh Steelers-Las Vegas Raiders game. According to NBC, Sunday's average minute-per-minute viewership was 2.6 million, and the game earned a TV household rating of 11.7/35 across the United States. Kansas City and St. Louis topped the list of highest-rated markets, followed by Atlanta, Cincinnati and Denver.

Earlier in the season, the Chiefs' opening game against the Baltimore Ravens reached a new high as the most-watched NFL kickoff game of all time. In Week 2, the Cincinnati Bengals game on CBS drew an average of a whopping 27.8 million viewers, making it the most-watched September game on the network this century.

Can Sunday's game in Los Angeles against the Chargers (on CBS) continue to set the bar high? Only time will tell.
