Seahawks optimistic: DK Metcalf injury is not serious

ATLANTA – There was a lot going for the Seahawks' 34-14 win over the Falcons, a game highlighted by big plays and takeaways from the defense, strong performances on offense and several players who stepped up and played well while they stepping in for injured starters.

But if there was anything negative about Sunday, it was that DK Metcalf left the Seahawks' sideline on a cart in the fourth quarter, reflecting a knee injury he sustained on a diving catch late in the third quarter that didn't counted because he was thrown out of bounds before going down.

Metcalf, who had four catches for 99 yards and a touchdown, was unable to return to the game, but Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald expressed optimism that the injury was not serious.

“He banged up his knee a little bit on that catch on the sideline,” Macdonald said. “I'm not sure how serious it is. At this point we are optimistic, it doesn’t look that bad.”

The only other injury reported by Macdonald was an ankle injury to cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett late in the game that “didn’t look serious.”

The Seahawks entered the game without right tackle Stone Forsythe and cornerbacks Riq Woolen and Tre Brown, which led to Pritchett and Josh Jobe filling in at corner and rookie Michael Jerrell starting at right tackle.

Macdonald said he doesn't know how soon Forsythe, who was sidelined with a hand injury, will be back, but there is hope that George Fant, who started the season at right tackle before leaving the opener with a knee injury, will return could practice this week.

“We do think there is a chance, yes,” Macdonald said. “We'll see. It’s not definitive yet, but we’re optimistic it will be soon.”
