“Chicago Sky fans roast team after report emerges about new head coach”

Much of the women's basketball community was surprised when the Chicago Sky announced the firing of first-year head coach Teresa Weatherspoon following the end of her 2024 season.

The intrigue surrounding that decision turned to fascination when Chicago Sun-Times reporter Annie Costabile revealed in an Oct. 9 article: “According to league sources, Weatherspoon had lost the locker room due to a culture that was based on the the needs of a few players.”

Regardless of why Weatherspoon was fired – or how select members of the Sky felt about it – the bottom line is that the Sky are now looking for a new head coach for the 2025 WNBA season.

While many members of the Chicago fan base have expressed a desire for Chicago to hire current Connecticut Sun head coach Stephanie White, an October 15 Costabile article stated that another coach was the current leading candidate for the Sky's leadership job could be considered.

“According to multiple league sources, Sky has expressed interest in former Sparks coach Curt Miller, with preliminary discussions taking place between the two parties,” Costabile wrote.

“Miller, 56, is one of the winningest coaches in the WNBA with an overall record of 165-141, six consecutive postseason appearances with the Sun and two Coach of the Year awards.”

Miller was head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks last season, but the two parties parted ways after Los Angeles finished with the league's worst record (8-32).

Sky fans don't seem happy about their franchise targeting Miller.

“Sky organization so dubious, Curt Miller? 😭😭😭,” X user @clutch2_j wrote on Tuesday.

Another fan remarked, “If Sky hires Curt Miller I will be so damn mad. Yes, even angrier than I ever was. Omg. FU (Sky GM Jeff) Pagliocca.”

“I'll throw eggs at everyone in the front office if you hire Curt Miller so for @chicagosky,” another added.

Time will tell if Miller will coach Chicago next season.
