The 2024 Steelers' most “efficient” offensive tackle was Najee Harris

While not all cylinders are firing yet, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense is running better than ever in the post-Ben Roethlisberger era. RB Najee Harris has been here for every Steelers stall, breakdown and tow along the way. Now he enjoys a fun offense. When he spoke to reporters after the game, he was honest about where the team was at.

“Perfect man, I think this is the most efficient thing I’ve seen in my years here,” Harris said via the team’s website. “And usually we turn it around, I guess we’ll say it later in the season. But to happen so early and get this momentum going, I think it’s just a sign of what’s to come.”

The slow-starting Steelers aren't completely gone yet. They had their fits early as QB Russell Wilson fought off the rust and Pittsburgh fell behind 15-6 with five minutes to play in the second half. But CB Beanie Bishop's interception changed the game and helped cut the lead to just 2 points by halftime.

From then on, it was all Pittsburgh. Najee Harris and the running game got going as the Steelers lineman imposed his will and wore down the Jets in the second half. Harris posted his second consecutive 100-yard rushing performance and capped the win with a 10-yard score. The Steelers' 37 points are their most in a win in four years, and they have now scored over 30 points in consecutive games.

“Coming this early into the season and starting this quickly is the best start I’ve had in my four years here,” Harris said. “The best thing we started. I think it’s the dedication to the guys we have in the quarterback room and on the O-line and also the coaches we have.”

As Harris indicated, the Steelers' normal mantra is to get going in the final month of the year. That's what they did in 2023, when Mason Rudolph saved the team's playoff hopes and picked up three Finals victories. The Steelers are showing that they can be a team capable of scoring goals and shutting out opponents. There is still a lot of season to play. Chances are there will be ups and downs, but the flashes are there. Harris can see her.
