Nevada Day parade, sunny skies this week in northern Nevada

It's a four-day week for state employees and students in the Silver State. The three-day Nevada Day holiday weekend begins Friday, with celebrations in Carson City scheduled for Saturday.

The actual 160th anniversary of Nevada's statehood doesn't happen until next Thursday, October 31st. If you're looking for local history to remember on the actual date this week:

  • Oct. 22, 1846: The Donner party reached the Truckee Meadows and camped there until October 28th.
  • Oct. 23, 1909: The Mackay Athletic Field (the original one, not the current one) was inaugurated before a rugby match.
  • Oct. 23, 1926: The original Reno Arch was dedicated.

Will this week in Nevada be remembered and celebrated for another century? No, probably not, but at least we'll have sunny skies, moderate temperatures and a full program of big name stage shows this weekend. Here's what's on the agenda in Northern Nevada the week of October 21-27, 2024.
