Varsity & JV: Steelers Week 7 winners and losers win against the Jets

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 5-2 atop the AFC North after a 37-15 win over the New York Jets. There was a lot to like in the second straight big win for the Steelers, so let's get started.

University

QB Russell Wilson

I'm going to eat my crow now. I hated the idea of changing quarterbacks – it made so much sense to me. And after three consecutive three-and-outs, I was ready for a change. But then Wilson and the offense settled down. He finished the game 16 of 29 for 264 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown from the goal line, giving him three total points on the night. His 264 yards are the most in team history for a quarterback making his Steelers debut, and the offense put on a show en route to 31 unanswered points.

CB Beanie Bishop

Beanie Bishop's first interception against Aaron Rodgers completely changed the course of the game. This led to the Steelers scoring their first touchdown just before halftime and getting within two points. His second interception set up Russell Wilson's sneak from the one-yard line to put the Steelers up eight. Bishop had many difficult moments in the first two months of the season, but this was a great performance from an undrafted rookie that helped Pittsburgh turn the tide.

RB Najee Harris

Harris had his second straight 100-yard game, and it looks like Arthur Smith is coming up with the idea of just having him run north and south instead of back and forth to find yards. He's developing into the consistent big guy Pittsburgh was hoping for when they recruited him. Maybe that will lead to him returning to Pittsburgh with a new contract.

WR George Pickens

Pickens made several contested catches, becoming to him what Sweet Chin Music was to Shawn Michaels. He had five receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown.

TEs Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington

Freiermuth only had two catches, but for 21 and 30 yards, respectively. Darnell Washington also deserves a mention here as we're talking about tight ends. The two big pass-catching options combined to catch six passes for 87 yards.

LB Payton Wilson

Wilson was everywhere on the field, led the team with 10 tackles and always seemed to be where the ball was. A good evening for the newbie.

S DeShon Elliott

Elliott is a bona fide All-Pro at this point in the season. He has such a high football IQ, always finds his way to the ball carrier, flies in from the secondary to make tackles in the backfield (he had another TFL on Sunday), and has always been this team's Swiss Army Knife. He had six tackles, the aforementioned tackle for loss and a hit on Aaron Rodgers.

CB Joey Porter Jr

Davante Adams had just three catches for 30 yards on the night – Porter Island's newest addition.

DL Larry Ogunjobi

Ogunjobi had two tackles and the Steelers' only sack on the night against Rodgers. He also had three hits on the quarterback, so he was constantly causing havoc.

DL Dean Lowry

Lowry blocked the Jets' field goal, keeping the game tied at 23-15, and led to Pittsburgh driving up the field to make the score 30-15. This is the second time this season the Steelers have blocked a kick-on Football on Sunday evenings.

OC Arthur Smith

Art was in his bag as if it were one More terrible Film. Whether it was efficient runs with Harris and Jaylen Warren, deep throws to Pickens or a great scissors concept that left Calvin Austin completely uncovered for a 36-yard gain, Smith called it a fantastic game. The Steelers finished with over 400 yards of offense and scored more than 30 points in consecutive weeks.

HC Mike Tomlin

Very few people defended Tomlin's decision to start Wilson, but he looks like a genius right now. We all have concerns when it comes to Tomlin's shortcomings, but we also need to give him the credit he deserves.

Junior varsity

Tackle

The Steelers offensive tackling was abysmal. Her lack of ability to take down Breece Hall led to major success on multiple occasions. He had catches of 18, 13 and 57 yards.

Diploma

Pittsburgh was able to score four times from the red zone, but it could have been more. On the first drive they had a good series of plays that suddenly stopped and they settled for a 46-yard field goal. In the first half, they entered the red zone again, found themselves in the shadow of the goal line and failed to turn the ball over six times. Pittsburgh needs to get better at finishing earlier in the game rather than having everything fall into place later.
