Police arrest young man with gun at high school in Manchester, New Hampshire

A young man was arrested Monday morning after students at Memorial High School in Manchester, New Hampshire, reported seeing him with a gun in the parking lot, police said.

According to a release from the Manchester Police Department, several students told school resource officers around 8 a.m. that the man had been seen near the stadium holding the firearm. He then hid the weapon under his clothing.

According to police, officers quickly located the suspect, 18-year-old Tyson Lennartson, at a nearby off-campus business where he was found with a firearm. He is not a student at the school and reportedly did not attempt to enter the school building.

The school was placed on “safe campus” status for about five minutes while officers responded, police said.

“This incident was an isolated incident and there are no other known safety concerns,” the Manchester Police Department said, thanking students, staff and school district leaders for “their vigilance and quick action.”

Lennartson was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal threats, police said. It was not immediately clear whether he has a defense attorney.
