Hundreds of frozen waffle brands sold at Target, Walmart and others have been recalled over listeria concerns

Frozen waffles sold under various brand names and distributed nationwide are being recalled due to possible listeria contamination. According to the Associated Press, Illinois-based TreeHouse Foods voluntarily announced the recall after finding possible contamination during routine inspections at its manufacturing facility.

The recall affects hundreds of different varieties and types of waffles sold at major retailers such as Dollar General, Target and Walmart, as well as smaller grocers across the United States. The full list of recalled waffles, UPC codes, lot codes and more can be found here.

To date, the company is not aware of any illnesses caused by the problem. Anyone who purchased the recalled waffles is asked to discard them or return them for credit to the store where they were purchased.

Although most listeria infections are mild, they can be potentially fatal and are particularly dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems. Mild symptoms include fever, diarrhea, headache, nausea and stiffness.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimates that 1,600 people in the U.S. become infected with listeria each year and about 260 people die each year as a result of infection.
