Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is reportedly the latest member of the San Francisco 49ers to face health concerns.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Samuel was hospitalized for pneumonia. He also had fluid in his lungs.

The veteran had to leave Sunday's 28-18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs early due to illness and, after this latest development, has no timetable for his return to the field.

This is just the latest setback for the offense.

Christian McCaffrey has not played a game this season due to Achilles tendonitis after being named NFL Offensive Player of the Year for the 2023 season. Schefter's report states that tight end George Kittle is now considered an everyday player because of a sprained ankle.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk isn't so lucky and will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL and ACL in the loss to the Chiefs. In addition, wide receiver Jauan Jennings missed the game against the Chiefs due to a hip injury.

Then there was rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who just made his season debut this Sunday because he was shot in the chest during a robbery in San Francisco in August.

While the 49ers had realistic Super Bowl aspirations as the reigning NFC champions this season, health concerns led to an uneven 3-4 start. And the immediate future could be difficult as the team looks to replace Aiyuk's lost performance with Samuel's status unclear ahead of an upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Samuel is a key piece in the team's offense and has the ability to pass the ball out of the backfield and serve as an ideal pass catcher.

The 2021 Pro Bowler has 20 catches for 335 yards and a touchdown to go with 51 yards and a score on the ground in six games this season. He also missed a Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams due to a calf injury.

San Francisco will likely rely on Kittle even more, assuming he can play after all of these setbacks and rely on the receiver combination of Chris Conley, Pearsall and Ronnie Bell to provide much-needed depth.
