The San Francisco 49ers were hit with a double dose of tough health news on Monday about two wide receivers.

First, the team learned that Brandon Aiyuk suffered a torn ACL and ACL in San Francisco's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and is out for the season.

Later, coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Deebo Samuel was hospitalized for “pneumonia-like” symptoms and was struggling with fluid in his lungs.

According to Shanahan, Samuel only played in four games on Sunday and never touched the ball before being ruled out due to breathing difficulties.

Aiyuk was injured in the final minute of the first half of San Francisco's 28-18 loss in Santa Clara, California. He had two balls for 23 yards before leaving. Aiyuk was injured while catching a 15-yard pass and was hit by two Kansas City defenders, with Chamarri Conner's hit causing Aiyuk's right leg to bend backwards.

The 26-year-old from Arizona State had 25 catches for 374 yards and hadn't caught a touchdown pass in seven starts this season for the 49ers (3-4). Aiyuk, a second-team All-Pro selection in 2023, held out through the offseason before accepting a four-year, $120 million contract extension in late August.

San Francisco selected Aiyuk 25th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has 294 career catches for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns in 69 regular season games (67 starts).

Samuel, 28, has 20 catches for 335 yards and a touchdown this season. He also has 19 carries for 51 yards and a score.

For his career, Samuel has 303 receptions for 4,457 yards and 20 touchdowns, plus another 20 rushing touchdowns with 1,058 yards and 179 carries.
