Freddie Prinze Jr. assesses the impact of WWE Raw's switch to a 2-hour format

By the end of the year, WWE Raw will switch to a two-hour programming format, but when the show moves to Netflix, it is expected to return to the usual three-hour format. This will also be the first time the Red brand has run for two hours since July 2012.

Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. discussed the topic on his podcast “Wrestling with Freddie,” where he explained that fans may see less talent on Monday nights due to the change. He believes that other wrestlers may seek work in other promotions if they are not used on WWE television.

“They're moving it around and cutting it down to two, which I've always thought was the perfect amount of time — I predict they're not going to have as many wrestlers on the roster as they currently have because there's not going to be enough time. That's a whole hour less of matches, segments, storylines, backstage segments, in-ring promos… a whole hour less, which means it's not cost-effective for them to sign that many wrestlers,” Prinze Jr. said. “They're owned by TKO now, another company, and they're going to take a cost-effective solution… (they're going to think) 'This wrestler isn't being used, so get out. This wrestler isn't being used, so get out,' which gives wrestlers more opportunities to go to AEW, to another brand if they compete there.”

Prinze Jr. also stated that both GCW and MLW could be close to signing television deals and believes that both promotions could be outlets for wrestlers who are released or have been looking for an alternative.
