Harvey Weinstein's health problems are reportedly increasing with cancer diagnosis amid legal battles

According to TMZ, disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is battling cancer.

The 72-year-old was reportedly diagnosed with bone marrow cancer while incarcerated at Rikers Island.

Weinstein is reportedly behind bars undergoing treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia.

Weinstein's health diagnosis came after he underwent heart surgery last month. He was subsequently hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia.

His health problems come as he awaits a retrial on two sexual allegations related to his landmark #MeToo case after the state's highest court overturned his 2020 conviction earlier this year.

Last month, he also pleaded not guilty to a new sex offense charge involving allegations that he forced oral sex on a woman at a Manhattan hotel in the spring of 2006.

It is unknown whether his cancer diagnosis will have any impact on his upcoming trial next month.

Representatives for Weinstein declined to comment on his new diagnosis.

A statement released to TMZ said: “Craig Rothfeld, Mr. Weinstein's authorized health representative in New York State, expresses his deep dismay at the speculation surrounding Mr. Weinstein's health.” It continued: “It is both concerning as well as unacceptable that such private and confidential health matters have become the subject of public discussion and speculation. Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will have no further comment.”

Weinstein co-founded the film and television production companies Miramax and The Weinstein Company and also produced Hollywood films.
