Why do we celebrate Halloween?

According to History.com, Halloween was originally the Celtic holiday of Samhain. The November 1st celebration marked the end of the harvest season. The Celts believed that the spirits of the dead returned to earth the night before. The celebration was combined with a Roman festival in 43 AD. Eventually, the Catholic Church changed the holiday to honor all Christian martyrs and saints – All Saints Day. The night before is All Saints Day or Halloween.
