Former Inter Milan and Switzerland winger warns Young Boys about star goalkeeper: “It’s not easy to score in summer”

Former Inter Milan winger Xherdan Shaqiri has warned Young Boys about Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

During his recent interview with Blue Sport, as reported by FCInterNewsthe new Basel striker praised the goalkeeping skills of his former national player.

Yann Sommer and Shaqiri shared the Swiss national team dressing room for over a decade.

Both players retired from international football after the national team failed to make it past the quarter-finals of EURO 2024.

As for Shaqiri, he returned to European football this summer, joining his boyhood club Basel.

In fact, the 33-year-old is back home after two years with the Major League Soccer franchise Chicago Fire.

Basel's fiercest domestic rivals will face Inter in the UEFA Champions League game in Bern this evening.

Shaqiri knows both sides.

During his playing career in Switzerland he often faced the Young Boys, but briefly wore the Nerazzurri jersey.

In January 2015 he moved from FC Bayern Munich to Giuseppe Meazza.

Inter paid the Bundesliga record champions 15 million euros to sign Shaqiri.

However, unable to gain a foothold in Serie A, the small striker left the club and moved to Stoke City.

If anyone understands Sommer's goalkeeping abilities, it's Shaqiri.

They were national team colleagues for over ten years.

It's fair to say that they have made the Nati one of the most exciting teams in Europe.

In fact, Italy felt its wrath at EURO 2024 when Switzerland won 2-0 in the round of 16.

Shaqiri praised his former teammate ahead of Wednesday's clash.

“It will be a tough game for the Swiss and it will certainly not be easy to score against Yann,” he said.

Shaqiri's statement was not far from the truth.

Sommer has yet to concede a goal in the Champions League this season.
