The 76ers need another strong debut performance from the veteran wing

As they prepare for the regular season opener, the Philadelphia 76ers are severely shorthanded. On Tuesday, the team announced that Joel Embiid and Paul George will both miss Wednesday night's game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

When the Sixers signed PG in free agency, fans and analysts across the league were excited to see Philly's newly formed Big Three in action. However, the wait will be lengthy as both stars continue to rehab their injuries. Embiid has already been ruled out for this week, while PG is set to be re-evaluated in the coming days.

With Embiid and George out of action, the Sixers will have to rely on support from other areas in the game against the Bucks. One player looking for another strong showing on opening night is Kellu Oubre Jr.

Last season, the Sixers also opened the year against Milwaukee. It went all the way to the end, and Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. secured a 118:117 win.

Among those who had an outstanding performance in this game was Oubre. In his first game with the Sixers, he came off the bench and scored 27 points. The senior forward knocked down nine of his 11 field goal attempts, including a 5-for-6 effort from distance.

Oubre has already been identified as someone who could be a possible starter this year, and with PG out, it's likely Nick Nurse moves him into the opening lineup. If he can score big again alongside Tyrese Maxey, the undermanned team could perhaps eke out a win on opening night.
