Macklemore's pro-Palestinian protest song gets a sequel: “Hind's Hall 2”

For the sequel to his pro-Palestinian protest song “Hind's Hall,” Macklemore has enlisted a handful of Palestinian artists and poets.

“Hind's Hall 2,” released Saturday, features contributions from Palestinian-American singer Anees, Gaza-born rapper MC Abdul and Palestinian-American comedian and writer Amer Zahr (who both sings and plays the oud). The song also features choral vocals from the LA Palestinian Kids Choir, Lifted! Youth Gospel Choir, Tiffany Wilson and friends.

“I've seen massacres, I'm grateful to be alive/You appreciate life when you survive a genocide,” MC Abdul rhymes on his verse. “Look into my eyes and tell me what you see/I'm running out of tears, I can't cry no more, rapping until Palestine is free.”

Later in the song, Macklemore makes a nod to Kamala Harris, referring to the Uncommitted movement – an ongoing initiative to stop U.S. arms sales to Israel, limit the country's indiscriminate tactics in Gaza, and end the war. “Hey Kamala, I don't know if you're listening,” Macklemore says, “but stop sending money and weapons or you're not winning Michigan. We're uncommitted and there's no way we're changing our position.”

Macklemore also performed “Hind's Hall 2” at a concert in his hometown of Seattle over the weekend and also let out a loud “Fuck America” during his performance.

Macklemore released the original “Hind's Hall” in May amid widespread campus protests demanding an end to Israel's war in Gaza. The song's title was a reference to the new name given to Columbia University's Hamilton Hall by protesters when they occupied it earlier this year; they renamed it Hind's Hall after Hind Raja, a six-year-old girl killed by the Israeli military in February.

Just like the first song, Macklemore will donate the proceeds from “Hind's Hall 2” to UNRWA USA, a nonprofit organization that supports Palestinian refugees.
