Global Super League 2024 – Participation of Lahore Qalandars, Hampshire, Rangpur Riders and Victoria confirmed

Caribbean Premier League team Guyana Amazon Warriors will face Pakistani Super League side Lahore Qalandars in the opening match of the inaugural Global Super League. The five-team T20 competition also includes Hampshire Hawks (T20 Blast), Rangpur Riders (BPL) and Victoria (Australian state team). Eleven games, including the final, will be played over as many days starting November 26th, with each team playing the other once before the top two teams advance to the final on December 7th.

Different teams from around the world take part in the annual event every year. Providence, Guyana will host all games.

The league demonstrates Guyana’s “ambitions to become a global sporting destination,” said Giles White, director of men’s cricket at Hampshire. “The international club competition has proven successful in other sports and has been absent from cricket for some time.” The competition was approved by the CWI and “fully supported” by the Government of Guyana, a “key player” in the competition. The prize money is $1 million.

The West Indies will play two Tests at home against Bangladesh between November 22 and December 4. The resulting clash could lead to availability issues for the Warriors, whose squad includes Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie and Kevin Sinclair, players who are also part of the West Indies Test squad. Rangpur Riders will also be directly affected by the dispute with Hasan Mahmud, who may play for Bangladesh.

With Pakistan scheduled for an all-format tour of South Africa starting with the T20Is on December 10, the availability of Babar Azam, who played six matches for Rangpur in the BPL 2024, and Shaheen Afridi, the captain, is among the concerns of Qalandars, secured in case of doubt.

The league will also clash with Abu Dhabi T10, scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 2.
