Amazon offers gas benefits for Prime membership

Amazon Prime members now benefit from a benefit that will help them save money on gas.

E-commerce giant Amazon offered its Prime members a gas-saving perk on Wednesday that gives them 10 cents off every gallon of gas they buy at about 7,000 U.S. gas stations.

The thousands of eligible gas stations where Prime members can take advantage of the new benefit are all BP, Amoco and Ampm locations, the company said.

Amazon and Earnify “each offer 5¢ per gallon, for a total of 10¢ per gallon savings for Prime members, including all fuel grades, with no minimum or maximum gallon requirement,” the e-commerce giant said on its website .

To take advantage of the discount at eligible gas stations, Amazon says Prime members must “enter their phone number or linked payment method.” The other option is through the Earnify app.

The new advantage for Amazon Prime comes from the fact that there has been a fuel saving advantage for some time for those who are part of competitor Walmart's paid membership.

Earnify, which is required to access Amazon Prime's fuel-saving benefits, was launched by BP earlier this month. The company said at the time that it wanted to use the rewards app to “provide a seamless, integrated and rewarding experience for users, both at the pump and in-store.”

According to AAA, a gallon of regular gasoline cost an average of $3,155 nationwide as of late Wednesday afternoon. This price represented a decrease of over 1.6% compared to the previous month and an 11.1% decrease compared to the previous year.

According to AAA, the U.S. recorded a record-high average price of $5,016 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in mid-June 2022.
