Early voting is underway in Tennessee and other states in the race for the White House and other political seats that will have authority in shaping our communities over the next four years.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have both been active on the campaign trail, from visiting areas devastated by recent hurricanes to bringing in big-name endorsements to woo voters for the Republican or Democratic nomination in 2024.

It is expected to be a close race until the final votes are counted in this presidential election. Here's what the latest polls show and what Trump and Harris did on the campaign trail last week.

Who will win the polls for the 2024 presidential election?

Recent polls show Harris ahead, but the lead is minimal.

A six-day Reuters/Ipsos poll that ended Monday showed Harris leading Trump by a narrow margin of 46% to 43%. Which was little different from the 45% to 42% lead she had over Trump in a Reuters/Ipsos poll a week earlier.

Harris may have a small lead, but a majority of respondents favored Trump when it came to the economy and immigration. When asked which candidate had a better approach to the issues, Trump was ahead 46% to 38% on the economy and 48% to 35% on immigration.

And while voters in the poll favored Trump on immigration and the economy, Harris was seen as the better candidate when it came to combating political extremism and threats to democracy, with Harris leading 42% to 35%. She also led on abortion and health policy issues.

With just two weeks left until Election Day on November 5th, this race could be a photo finish.

Liz Cheney replaces Kamala Harris

On Monday, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) made stops with Harris in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan to make inroads in those key states with voters who are still undecided in this election.

Cheney and her father, former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, recently bucked party lines and supported Harris for president. Liz Cheney has encouraged Republicans to “meet the moment” and vote for the current vice president.

As we meet here today, our republic faces a threat like never before: a former president who sought to stay in power by destroying the foundations of our republic,” Cheney said during a speech in Ripon, Wisconsin Birthplace of the Republican Party. “We cannot turn away from this truth in this election, putting patriotism over partisanship is not a goal. It is our duty.”

Cheney helps Harris expand his base, Trump doubles down

Liz Cheney is helping Kamala Harris woo Republican voters as Donald Trump doubles down and leads among men in polls.

Cheney has been an outspoken critic of Trump for years and was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. She also served as vice chairwoman of the House special committee tasked with investigating the attempted insurrection.

Trump is taking a “hypermasculinity” approach to wrap up his campaign

While campaigning in some of these states, Trump has moved away from blue-state bashing, commented on golfer Arnold Palmer's genitals in a speech in Pennsylvania, attended a McDonald's photo op and attended an NHL game, apparently Attempts are to keep the man voting on suspension.

The speech in Pennsylvania, which quipped that Palmer was “all man,” was also filled with curses, calling Harris a “shitty vice president.”

Trump's approach may be on track to retain his most ardent supporters and encourage turnout among low-propensity male voters, but it could also rebuke suburban swing voters who were once considered key campaign targets.

“I've never seen anyone focus more on current supporters rather than trying to expand the pool of potential voters,” said Frank Luntz, a Republican pollster and Fox News regular with more than three decades of political experience.

But this hypermasculine campaign style, or as one of his critics called it, a caustic version of masculinity, could have some drawbacks, according to USA TODAY reports.

“In the end, it all comes down to voter turnout,” Luntz said. “And I can understand that strategy if you have two or three days. But he's been doing this for weeks, even months, now, and that means he has to get every single person who likes him to vote for him, and that's a very difficult thing. It’s doable, but it’s a big challenge.”

When will we elect the president in 2024?

The general election will take place on Tuesday, November 5th.
