Tottenham 1-0 AZ: Europa League – how it happened | Europa League

Important events

Thank you for joining me. Here is Jacob Steinberg's report from Tottenham.

James Madison: “Someone else ticked it off. A lot of people talk about what we have to go through. Three wins in three games is a good start.

“We both wanted to take it, I was the senior player and captain so I wanted to take it but then I had a conversation of my own. Richarlison has come back from injury and I know how difficult that is, so I left it to him.

“I thought it would be best if he accepted it, hopefully it will give him a big boost.”

About Mikey Moore: “From the 45th to the 65th minute I thought we had Neymar on the wing. He has a young, fearless mentality. He is a young and lovable guy who absorbs a lot of information. It’s about putting in the effort and working hard, which is what he does anyway.”

Full time: Tottenham 1-0 AZ

In the end, it is Richarlison's goal that secures Spurs' third successive Europa League win, but the game will be remembered most for Mikey Moore's second-half performance. He seems to be an excellent player.

90+3 mins: NO PUNISHMENT! I think it would be hard on the goalkeeper if he was penalized for trying to block a shot and catch an opponent.

share

90+2 mins: Spurs were set to make it 2-0 after Udogie missed the target after a great move down the left. The goalkeeper catches Udogie and Spurs want a penalty. VAR looks around…

90 minutes: Added three minutes.

Scott Blair says: “With reference to Kari Tulinius’ earlier observation. “Whenever I see Troy Parrott on the field, he always seems dangerous to me, like the proverbial weapon in a Chekhov play.”

“I am now forced to share that every time I see the name of the boy from AZ, it reminds me of Chou Pahrot, a…remarkable A Paisley based band from a long, long time ago. They were the support act for the Rezillos Christmas Party at the Glasgow Apollo in 1978.

“And it’s not often you get to share a memory like that publicly, so cheers.”

88 minutes: It is ideal for Spurs to play the remaining minutes against one man less.

Moore goes, Odobert goes on. The winger has the chance to double the lead, but his shot from close range is blocked.

RED CARD! Möller Wolfe

86 mins: A second yellow card for Moller Wolfe for hitting Johnson leads to a dismissal. This is the second sending off in as many games.

84 mins: Double changes for AZ: Dekker and Mijnans out, Meerdink and Kwakman come on.

share

83 mins: Kulusevski drives down the right side and then intervenes – he has options in the penalty area, but decides to shoot, which causes the goalkeeper no problems at all.

share

81 mins: Dekker slips in to attack Sarr; He takes the ball but the challenge is deemed reckless, earning the Spurs a free kick and the AZ man a yellow card.

share

79 minutes: Moore intervenes from the left and decides to shoot, it's not a bad shot, but aimed directly at the goalkeeper.

share

77 mins: Fair play to Forster, he rarely gets a game and had a quiet night overall, but when called upon he was always alert and ready.

share

75 minutes: Parrott sends Lahdo through the middle and he has a great chance to equalize but hits it straight to Forster.

share

73 mins: Bergvall's race is over. Looks like he has a groin problem. My guess is that Sarr will replace him while Kulusevski replaces Maddison.

share

71 mins: The camera finds Steve Perryman in the stands. He would rather look at his phone than watch the game.

share

69 minutes: Parrott sends a pass to Poku on the edge of the penalty area, but he is pushed too far and Spurs regroup. AZ comes back at Spurs but can't create a worthwhile chance.

share

67 minutes: Solanke's first involvement is a foul on Penetra.

Lahdo comes, Maikuma comes for AZ.

share

65 minutes: Maddison hits the corner, causing the goalkeeper to hit it with his knuckle to knock it back again.

Richarlison goes, Solanke goes on.

63 mins: Kasius shoots a shot from 25 meters, but Forster realizes it's coming and saves.

Emails from Kári Tulinius: “Whenever I see Troy Parrott on the pitch he always seems dangerous to me, like the proverbial weapon in a Chekhov play. However, as far as I can remember, I have never seen him score a goal. Maybe it’s the drama he needs to take on his old club.”

61 minutes: Solanke prepares to come on while Richarlison is the man ready to go. Not surprising considering the Brazilian has only just returned from injury.

share

59 minutes: More incredible stuff from Moore. The winger shows how quickly he slides his feet past the AZ defense before sending a shot over the goal.

share

57 mins: Dragusin goes in for Poku just outside the Spurs penalty area, but the defender loses the ball and the AZ man is through until Bentacur jumps in to save his teammate.

Moller Wolfe is cautioned for pulling on Maddison's shirt.

share

55 minutes: Moore thrilled Tottenham and the crowd. I said the fans needed something to lift them up and the teenager certainly did.

Spurs have a great chance for a second goal when Johnson gains a pass on the right side of the penalty area. He thinks about what to do and tries to find Richarlison in the middle, but Owusu-Oduro manages to intercept beautifully.

51st minute: Penalty against TOTTENHAM! Bergvall is shot to the ground in the penalty area just as he is about to shoot. Richarlison and Maddison argue about who should take it over. The Brazilian is ultimately talked down to.

50 minutes: Moore, Moore, Moore, how do you like it? The winger loves dribbling and Spurs fans are happy about it. He wins a corner on the left, which AZ can clear relatively easily.

share

49 minutes: Moore is back in the game and hits a cross that Richarlison's header can't reach, and Bergvall can't connect either, but the ball is still dangerous until the goalkeeper directs it past the goal.

Moore is having the time of his life on the left side.

share

47 mins: Upon Johnson's arrival, Moore moves to the left, where he feels more comfortable. He immediately shows incredible skill, dribbling past four AZ players and sending a wonderful pass with the outside of his boot across to Johnson, but his shot is blocked.

Second half

Here we go again!

Johnson comes in for Werner for Spurs; Koopmeiners replaces Belic for AZ.
