Matchup

Ottawa (4-2-0) is in the second game of a three-game road trip before returning home. So far, the Senators are 1-1 as an away team, having lost 4-1 to Montreal earlier this season and defeating Utah 4-0 in their last game. The Senators are currently tied with the Lightning, Red Wings and Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division, but have at least one game in hand on each of those teams.

Meanwhile, Vegas (4-3-1) has won all four home games this season by a combined score of 21-9, covering the puck line in three of those games. Vegas is 10-2 all-time against the Senators, including 5-1 at home. The Golden Knights lost their last meeting in Ottawa, but had previously won nine straight times against the Senators. Vegas is currently tied with Seattle for third place in the Pacific Division, but still has a game in hand against the Kraken.

Best bets for Senators vs. Golden Knights

Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline (-130) at Sports Interaction

All signs point to Linus Ullmark returning to the Senators goal crease on Friday after Ottawa assigned goaltender Leevi Merilainen to the minors and sportsbooks adjusted their betting odds as a result. Vegas originally started as a -155 moneyline favorite, but has since moved to -130 following the news, and I think that makes the Golden Knights an attractive bet.

The Ottawa Senators struggle with a five-on-five system and are 27th in goals per 60 minutes. While their expected goals metrics are slightly better than Vegas', Ottawa has performed worse in expected goals over the last four seasons. In contrast, the Golden Knights are among the top five offensive teams with 3.58 goals per 60 minutes.

Although Vegas hasn't shown the same defensive structure as last season, it is ready for an offensive surge. Ullmark has never lost to Vegas in his career, but this will be only his third game against the club. Defender Shea Theodore will return from illness following a seven-year contract extension and forward William Karlsson is ready to make his season debut. That's why I'm backing the Golden Knights to maintain their home winning streak at -130 moneyline odds.
