Popular Halloween costumes in 2024, according to Spirit Halloween, Google Trends

Halloween is just around the corner, which means it's high time to start thinking about what you'll dress up as in honor of the spooky holiday on October 31st.

The top Halloween costume trends for 2024 are inspired by the year's pop culture moments and the blockbuster films hitting theaters.

“Halloween isn’t just a holiday – it’s about where everyone’s imagination can take them, and we can’t wait to see how our fans embrace these trends and make them their own this year,” says Steven Silverstein, CEO of Spirit Halloween, says a recent press release.

Spirit Halloween's Hottest Costume Trends for 2024 report states that movies are an important source of inspiration for those taking part in festivities this season.

Halloween costumes inspired by hit films

The R-rated blockbuster “Deadpool and Wolverine” is full of inspiration, from the title characters to the groundbreaking sequel “Lady Deadpool.”

Google Trends ranked “Lady Deadpool” as the 10th hottest costume costume, noting that “'Lady Deadpool costume' became a breakthrough in searches the day Deadpool and Wolverine hit U.S. theaters.” .”

The Beetlejuice sequel has also risen in the rankings as it showcases some of the hottest and most creative Halloween costumes this year.

The No. 1-ranked costume overall in Google Trends data is “Shrunken Bob” or “Bob the Shrinker,” with Google Trends online stating that “'Beetlejuice Shrunken Head' is the most searched shrunken head of all time.”

Other characters from the film, including Dolores, Lydia Deetz, and Delia Deetz, all ranked fairly high on Google's list, with Dolores coming in at number 4 and the Deetz women coming in at 23rd and 16th, respectively.

Both Spirit Halloween and Google Trends mentioned the emotions in the movie “Inside Out,” with Google Trends ranking envy (No. 6), anger (No. 12), disgust (No. 13), fear (No. 15) and joy (No. 21).

Halloween costumes inspired by pop culture

Many pop culture moments are also influencing 2024 costume trends, from the Olympics to rising pop stars and more.

The “scream tourism” trend has Halloween fans and travelers flocking to spooky places all year long

Rachel Gunn, known by her breakdancing name Raygun, represented Australia at the Paris Olympics and is currently the No. 2 hottest costume according to Google Trends.

Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter also made it into the top 10 hottest costumes on Google, with people searching for a “heart corset” based on the Short n' Sweet artist's concert looks.

Other pop culture and social media-inspired looks you'll see from trick-or-treaters could range from the wildly popular mob woman aesthetic that trended on TikTok earlier this year, Spirit Halloween reported.
