Dave Roberts' strange World Series bunt call was panned by fans

Dave Roberts' decision to sacrifice Enrique Hernandez's seventh-inning bunt backfired.

Hernandez, one of the hottest hitters in the Dodgers' lineup, was trailing by a run when Yankees reliever Clay Holmes was in trouble and grounded out a ball with runners on first and second base with no one out.

The play went according to plan and put both runners in scoring position with Will Smith coming to the plate.

But the inning went Los Angeles from there.

Smith made the first pitch at shortstop, leaving Gavin Lux to decide the game or give the Dodgers the lead.

Lux grounded out to second base, ending the Dodgers' threat and keeping the score at 2-1 for the Yankees.

Baseball fans quickly took to social media to criticize Roberts for taking the bat out of Hernandez's hand.

“Dave Roberts' appearance with Kiké Hernandez will be one of those Yankees World Series movie moments…” wrote X user Joe Aranda.

“I have to reiterate how stupid that bunt Dave Roberts just called was,” Knicks Film School’s Andrew Claudio wrote on an out with one of your most reliable playoff players who already had a triple. So so so so so so stupid.”
