Ducks at Sharks (Preseason Game 2): Lines, Gameplay and How to Watch

The Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks met in the rookie duel earlier this month. Now the two teams will meet in the preseason, with many of the players battling for a spot in the NHL or a contract.

The news out of Sharks training camp is injuries. It looks like Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Yaroslav Askarov and Shakir Mukhamadullin are not ready to join the rest of the team in training camp.

Thomas Bordeleau also did not play. Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News reports that Bordeleau is week-to-week.

This news calls Bordeleau’s start to the season into question.

Meanwhile, Macklin Celebrini left the ice today with a “lower body injury,” according to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said it was nothing serious. Coaches can be a little cautious when it comes to injuries, especially during training camp, so we'll keep an eye on it.

San Jose Sharks Lines

Will Smith makes his professional debut for the Sharks tonight. The fourth pick in 2023 is expected to form a line with Barclay Goodrow and Fabian Zetterlund.

Max Miller of The Hockey News reports that Vitek Vanecek will start in goal. That means it could end up like last game, when goalies switched mid-game. If that's the case, then expect former University of Vermont goalie Gabriel Carriere to get some time in goal. Carriere is expected to play for the Barracuda this season.

According to Peng, the queues will probably look like this tonight.

Forward
Barclay Goodrow – Will Smith – Fabian Zetterlund
Danil Gushchin – Filip Bystedt – Luke Kunin
Justin Bailey – Colin White – Scott Sabourin
Tyler Toffoli – Alex Wennberg – Carl Grundstrom

defense
Jake Walman – Jan Rutta
Jimmy Schuldt – Jack Thompson
Braden Hache – Joey Keane

goalkeeper
Vitek Vanecek
Gabriel Carriere

Anaheim Ducks squad

Look for a familiar face on the other side of the ice tonight. Ryan Carpenter signed a two-year deal with the San Diego Gulls in July. Carpenter could find himself in a similar situation to what he was in San Jose, with the possibility of an NHL contract if the Ducks have too many injuries to contend with.

We're not sure what the lineups will look like for the Ducks, but here are the players the team brought to San Jose, according to the Sharks website.

Boris Katchouk
Brett Leason
Brock McGinn
Jansen Harkins
Carson Meyer

How to watch Ducks at Sharks

Unfortunately, there aren't many ways to watch the Sharks vs. Ducks game live if you live outside of the Bay Area. There are a lot of blackout restrictions that only allow the Sharks to broadcast the game to viewers who live in the Bay Area. A VPN might help you get around that, but you didn't hear that from me.

Of course, listening along via the Sharks SAP Center app is another option. Last time, Dan Rusanowsky was on the video feed anyway.

If you live in the Bay Area, the game will be streamed live on sjsharks.com.

The puck drops tonight at 7 p.m.
