Aston Villa 1-1 Bournemouth (Oct 26, 2024) Match analysis

Top-flight club Aston Villa had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth after a last-gasp header from Evanilson canceled out Ross Barkley's opener for the dominant Premier League hosts on Saturday.

Despite being devastated by conceding a goal at the death, Unai Emery's team still moved up to third in the table with 18 points and extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions.

Buoyed by another Champions League win in midweek, Villa pounced on Bournemouth's goal from the start and wasted numerous chances before second-half substitute Barkley scored from close range in the 76th minute after Leon Bailey was knocked down .

Bournemouth had defended valiantly throughout but looked for an equalizer in stoppage time and got it when Brazilian striker Evanilson lost his marker and Marcus Tavernier's superb free-kick fired past Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

The goal in the 96th minute, the final touch of the game, sent the away fans delirious and gave Bournemouth a barely deserved share of the spoils that left them in 10th place with 12 points.

Earlier, Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers made a series of spectacular saves against Villa. The home side also had a goal disallowed in the first half after the ball flew just a few millimeters out of the pitch before John McGinn fired it into the net.

Villa's Amadou Onana, Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres, Ollie Watkins and Jhon Durán all saw chances saved or went narrowly wide, leading to the disappointment of another large and expectant Villa Park crowd.

“You feel intimidated here and it's hard to survive, but we persevered and got the draw,” Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola said, praising Travers for keeping the visitors in the game.

“It's always nice when you end up with a point in the last minute of the game. I don't feel like we played well, but we did well. “It was a great goal in a great moment,” added the Spaniard, a last-second equaliser.
