Dr. Phil supports Donald Trump at the Madison Square Garden rally

Dr. Phil McGraw appeared at Donald Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden and told the crowd that the former president was “tough as an old army boot” and rejected the idea that he was a bully.

McGraw had interviewed Trump for his network Merit Street Media earlier this year, when the former daytime anchor said he did not support candidates but sided with the former president's claims that his prosecutions were rigged.

At today's rally, McGraw said he was “not just here to stand up for Donald J. Trump.” God knows he doesn't need me to stand up for him. He's as tough as an old army boot. He has many enemies, different groups that are afraid, and they have accused him, accused him, raided him, harassed him, shot him and sued him. And where is he? He’s still standing.”

McGraw said he can “be honest and say that I don't like or agree with anything Donald J. Trump does or says.”

“No person is perfect. We don't strive for perfection. “We strive for excellence,” he said, “but you don’t have to love everything about someone to love them, and the last thing they need is celebrity endorsement.”

McGraw spent much of his remarks telling the crowd that Trump supporters were being bullied and silenced. He said they will be “canceled, intimidated, marginalized, excluded or even fired or boycotted.”

“When you attack a citizen and use the power of the Internet, when you use mob mentality, when you encourage people to band together and cause boycotts, that is beyond ugly,” he said. “And that’s exactly what’s happening in this country right now, and it’s not okay.”

He added: “There is an imbalance of power and it is time for each of us to work together. “We must stop this now. It’s time we stand up against cancel culture. It’s time we stood up against intimidation tactics.”

He also said that Trump is not a “bully” because “there has to be an imbalance of power, and when there isn't, you just call it a debate, and he's just better at it than anyone else.”

He also spoke about how other celebrities are covered in the media. “I'd like to say it's the same on both sides, but I guarantee you, if Beyoncé, George Clooney, De Niro and Rizzo come out and say they're for Kamala Harris, you've read or heard something in the media, what did they criticize? It? No, but watch what happens in the morning when people find out I came here to talk to you.”

McGraw spoke about the First Amendment, “in which our government has declared that we will make no laws infringing on our freedom of religion and speech.” So that's the law, but we muzzle each other. What's up? We have a law that protects free speech, so do we start taking it away from each other? Are you kidding me? We can’t allow that.”

McGraw alluded to Trump's claim 60 minutess edited an interview question with Kamala Harris to help her. The show said the editing was done to trim a segment for its running time, and claims that it was a deception were “false.”

McGraw did not mention that Trump has called on CBS to lose its broadcast license, along with other networks that have aired content he disagrees with. “These threats to free speech are serious and should not be ignored,” FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement earlier this month.
