Noesen scores 2 goals, the Devils overtake the Ducks with 4 in the second period

Brock McGinn scored at 4:47 of the first period with a snapshot from the top of the left faceoff circle to give Anaheim a 1-0 lead.

“We make mistakes when we don’t support each other, and sometimes we shoot ourselves in the foot,” McGinn said. “You have to keep it simple. You have to bring it in on the blueline and leave it out on your own. We didn’t do some of them.”

Jack Hughes tied the game at 1:16 of the second period with a backhand during a delayed penalty with Markstrom being pulled for an extra attacker. Mercer made a back pass to Timo Meier, who went up the ice to Hughes, who shot from the slot and then knocked in the rebound.

“I heard (Meier) … he was calling for the puck,” said Mercer, who turned 23 on Sunday. “When things go your way and we play good hockey, it feels good. We put a lot of pucks on net and kept a lot of them out of our zone.”

Noesen made it 2-1 after 4:42 seconds with a wrist shot from the high slot and increased it to 3-1 after 17:23 when he pushed the puck from the slot into the right corner and scored a goal on the power play Jesper Bratt's pass.

“I spend a lot of time in front of the net, trying to score pucks and work on my game in depth,” Noesen said. “My game isn’t as nice as some of these other guys. It’s a little trickier and if there’s a really good skill you hone in this league, it’s being at the net.”

“You see a guy like Joe Pavelski for 15 years who has the ability to pass pucks and I’m very proud to be able to do that.”
