A cold front will bring cooler fall temperatures this week

After North Texas experienced near-record heat over the weekend, the state will welcome a cold front this week. For many regions, this will be the first taste of autumn.

With temperatures already beginning to drop in some areas, Texans are asking themselves these important questions: How low will temperatures drop? And will the heat relief last? Here's what we know:

North Texas is seeing some relief from the heat, but will it last?

We have good news and bad news for North Texas.

A cold front swept across northern parts of the Lone Star State Sunday morning, dropping high temperatures by nearly 20 degrees in 24 hours. Highs fell from the upper 90s on Sunday to the lower 80s on Monday.

The bad news? It won't last. Strong winds will bring more heat Tuesday, pushing temperatures to the low to mid 90s, Fox KDFW reported.

But don't worry – a second cold front is on the way and is expected to last a little longer.

The second cold front arriving Tuesday evening will last longer and affect most of Texas

Another cold front from the northeast will reach south-central Texas Tuesday evening and into Wednesday, according to a Monday morning report from the National Weather Service. The maximum temperatures on Wednesday will drop significantly – up to 20 degrees in some regions.

Rain is possible in the Texas Panhandle on Friday and the weekend. Amarillo may experience a few severe thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
