A nice end to the week and a cold end to the month

Thanks to the thick fog covering coastal and inland communities, views of pea soup can be seen across the county, making visibility locally almost zero. A dense fog warning is in effect for the coast until 9 a.m. Allow time for the trip and be aware of delays when catching a flight at the airport.

The fog will clear in the morning, leading to another warm and pleasant day across the county.

Despite a chilly start, highs will be in the 70s along the coast and in the 80s inland. Away from the coast, there will be a slight warming this weekend and Monday is our transition day to a sharp cooling that begins next week. Temperatures will drop 5 to 25 degrees and tend to be 5 to 15 degrees below average as a low pressure trough moves south. Tuesday will be the coolest day, with 60 degrees on most coasts and valleys, 50 degrees in the mountains and even 70 degrees in the deserts.

There is a slight chance of drizzle to light rain from the coast to the mountains on Monday and Tuesday. Gusty winds will hit the mountains and deserts early next week, with westerlies 25 to 45 mph.

The marine layer will clear better on Wednesday, but temperatures will remain 5 to 10 degrees below average through Halloween.

Expect cool conditions for trick-or-treaters at night!

Highs from Friday:
Coast: 69-74°
Inland: 80-88°
Mountains: 79-87°
Deserts: 92-96°
