A one-month-old baby dies after being bitten by a dog in Torrance, according to police

TORRANCE, Calif. (KABC) — A month-old girl has died in Torrance after being bitten by the family dog.

“They are good people. They just didn't pay attention to what they should have paid attention to, which is really a tragedy,” said Faye Tohidi, a family friend. “It’s really sad.”

Torrance police received a call about an animal bite on Martha Avenue around 12:34 p.m. Tuesday. The city fire department responded and determined the baby had been bitten.

The little girl was taken to the hospital but did not survive, police said. An official cause of death has not been determined.

Tohidi says there were several dogs in the home, including a mastiff, a pit bull mix and another mixed breed dog.

“I'm a dog person myself and have a dog at home, but the thing is, you don't bring your child into an environment where there are so many big dogs. And that was wrong from the start,” she said.

Police say officers have been called to the home in the past, but none of the calls involved animals or DCFS.

According to police, all dogs from the household were taken away by Torrance Animal Control. We have reached out to animal control but have not yet received a response.
