The Climate Prediction Center predicts that this winter will be dominated by a weak La Niña in the equatorial waters of the Pacific Ocean.

La Niña is widely believed to result in drier-than-average winters in California. But as recent examples show, the exact opposite can and does occur in weak La Niñas.
