When we last saw Adam Cole, the former Ring of Honor and NXT World Champion was abandoned by MJF in a segment that most assumed was an end to the feud.

On Saturday we found out that may not be the case as Cole made a surprise return, parrying Daniel Garcia and chasing his nemesis from the square.

Cole helped Garcia to his feet, showed him respect and then enjoyed the adulation of the Tacoma fans.

If there was any doubt about whether Cole would return as a babyface or a heel when he was cleared to do so, it was dashed by the overwhelming cheers from fans based on the way his comeback was booked.

While Cole is traditionally strongest as a heel, the decision to draft him as a babyface makes sense if the intention is for him to resume his rivalry with MJF, once again a despised heel.

What this means for the Undisputed Kingdom remains to be seen, but Matt Taven and Mike Bennett are showing respect to Hook at Dynamite: Grand Slam, suggesting a babyface turn is on the horizon for everyone involved.

Regardless, Cole's return to television and ultimately the ring is great for the company, its fans and the performer. His star bolsters the roster, gives AEW another key event player to work with, and gets Cole back doing what he was born to do: compete between the ropes against the company's best.

Especially given the many difficulties he has experienced since joining the company in 2021.
