Agatha All Along: Is Teen Wanda's Son?

The following story contains spoilers for Episode 5 of Agatha all the time, “Darkest Hour / Wake Your Power.”

IT'S CLEAR from the beginning Agatha all the time The big reveal was about to begin with “Teen,” played by Joe Locke, and by the end of the show’s fifth episode, “Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power,” we finally had it. The twisty episode featured just about everything you could want in spooky mid-October content: a Ouija board, ghosts, possessions, and of course a scheming coven of witches, each with their own plans.

And while no one was watching WandaVision It would be surprising if Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) had her own sinister (or at least selfish) plans. The episode's ending – which reveals the power and identity of “Teen” – creates a big stir that should change that path for Agatha all the time and all of its characters for the duration of the show.

Here's how it all happened. After Agatha and the coven attempted to communicate with the dead via a Ouija board in the final trial along Witch Street, they ended up communicating with Agatha's mother, Evanora. You remember – the one who had her burned at the stake during the flashback we saw WandaVision. After revealing herself, Evanora possessed Agatha and was a frightening sight until Alice (Ali Ahn) intervened and pushed Evanora out. One problem: Agatha then seemed to drain Alice's magic for herself, draining Alice's life and only stopping when “Teen” learned the name “Nicholas Scratch” from the Ouiji board, calling him out and getting Agatha to stop. But it was too late for Alice, who was just as dead as Mrs. Hart just a few episodes before. RIP Alice.

Agatha initially claimed this was an accident, much to the chagrin of “Teen,” before Agatha, Lilia (Patti LuPone), and Jen (Sasheer Zamata) all said that they (and every witch) were in this for the same reason: power. That, combined with Agatha's snarky response to the seriousness of “Teen” – “You're so much like your mother” – set the teenager loose; He used his magic to control Lilia and Jen's minds and threw Agatha into a bog before throwing her in as well. A cut on the back revealed a headpiece on his head similar to the one Wanda wore at the end WandaVision and in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Agatha's knowledge of who “Teen” really was, combined with the end of the episode, seems to confirm that “Teen” is actually Wanda's son Billy/Wicca.

Is Teen actually Wicca, Wanda's son?

Although we don't have a backstory yet, at this point we can confirm with certainty that “Teen” is indeed Wiccan, the son of Wanda Maxmoff. Wicca typically has the same powers and abilities as Wanda – these include flight, chaos magic, telekinesis, force fields, reality warping, and more.

In both, we've already seen a version of Billy Maximoff – one of the “Billy and Tommy” twins WandaVision And Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But as is common in Marvel Comics lore, Wicca is actually Billy chaplain, and not Billy Maximoff– a distinction we'll explain in the next section below, although we'll certainly hear more about it Agatha all the time continues to unfold.

So who really is Wicca/Billy Maximoff/Billy Kaplan in Marvel Comics and the MCU?

MCU/Marvel Comics

This is where the history of Marvel Comics and the story unfolding so far in the MCU really begin to intertwine. Let's start with Marvel Comics.

In Marvel Comics lore, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision originally got their twin sons Billy and Tommy thanks to a deal with Mephisto – the Marvel Comics version of the devil. Mephisto attempted to bring the spirits back, but the twins' spirits overwhelmed his power thanks to the sheer strength of Wanda's magic, and eventually (years later!) their spirits found new bodies.

In the first volume of Young Avengers, Billy Maximoff was reincarnated in the form of Billy Kaplan, the son of Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan (with identical appearance, powers, and personality, albeit with different parents and in a new body). Billy Kaplan looked up to the Avengers and, after a chance encounter with Wanda/Scarlet Witch, discovered that he had powers similar to hers. He initially went by the superhero name “Asgardian” before finally switching to “Wiccan”. (The reborn Tommy, now named Thomas Shepherd, would eventually become the superhero “Speed.”)

Wiccan is one of the most well-known gay characters in Marvel Comics and even eventually married his friend, the Skrull named Hulkling.

How does this fit in with what we've seen in the MCU? Good question.

Since the Billy and Tommy we've already seen (at least the ones in our main 616 universe) turned out to be a creation of Wanda's magic and her curse, it's likely that it's Billy Kaplan we're seeing Agatha all the time Either he was reincarnated in a different body, as happened in the comics, or he came from another dimension.

However, the fact that Agatha is clear white He's Wanda's son (and he seems to know it) and adds an interesting wrinkle to everything we really want to see from a logistical perspective.

Teen/Wiccan is played by Joe Locke

At just 21 years old, actor Joe Locke's career is off to a great start. So far he has only been involved in two projects, and both were acclaimed series: those from Netflix heart stopper, where he plays one of the main characters, Charlie Spring, and now Agatha all the time, where his role as a teenager/Wiccan/Billy is clearly central to everything that transpires. Coincidentally, both projects are based on acclaimed comic book titles.

Locke was born on the Isle of Man in northern Europe and has spoken on numerous gay issues in his home country and elsewhere over the years.

In addition to his on-screen roles, Locke was also a well-known theater artist; Earlier this year he played Tobias Ragg in a Broadway production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber from Fleet Street.
