Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions is suffering from a fractured tibia and requires immediate surgery.

Detroit Lions defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson remains in Dallas and will undergo immediate surgery to repair a broken tibia.

Head coach Dan Campbell incorrectly stated that the star pass rusher suffered a compound fracture after the Lions' commanding win.

A Lions public relations representative quickly corrected the fourth-year head coach and relayed the information that Hutchinson had a broken tibia. He reportedly had to undergo emergency surgery after being taken to the hospital.

“He’s in good hands at the moment. He’s taken care of, he’s going to stay (in Dallas) and of course he’s going to be out for a while,” Campbell said. “So this is tough. It's hard when you lose someone like him. But after that we will know a lot more and of course wish him all the best.”

The scene early in the second half quickly turned grim as the former No. 2 overall pick appeared to be leg-lashed by teammate Alim McNeil. The injury likely ended his 2024 season.

“Look, these are tough moments,” Campbell said. “It's hard for everyone when you're standing there, and that's one of you, and something like that happens. But look, our guys did a good job of just refocusing them on the task at hand. If you think about it.” Too much, you start to play a little shy, then you get hurt. So our boys reacted immediately and lived in the moment when they were in it. This is a credit to our players and coaches.”

After the comfortable win, Campbell expressed expectations that his team would come to Dallas and play at a high level.

With his team playing a Cowboys team that needed a win to avoid falling to 3-3, there was a high level of confidence that his squad would respond appropriately. The team's leaders and their level of experience have taken into account that the atmosphere and the game, named America's Game of the Week, do not create unnecessary distractions.

“I didn’t learn anything,” Campbell said. “I expected us to come in and play well. That was the worst I felt from our team and she responded.”
