Al Taawoun 1-0 Al Nassr (Oct 29, 2024) Match analysis

Al Nassr are eliminated from the Saudi King's Cup by Al Taawoun after Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty in second-half stoppage time on Tuesday.

The five-time Ballon D'Or winner has yet to win a major trophy since joining the club almost two years ago.

The mid-table visitors of the Saudi Pro League took the lead through Waleed Al-Ahmed in the 71st minute of the round of 16 match at Al Awal Park in Riyadh.

With the game looking like it was slipping away, Al Nassr was awarded a penalty late on but Ronaldo, who has never missed a penalty in his 18 attempts since moving to the SPL, fired his shot over the bar.

The defeat is Stefano Pioli's first since the Italian took over as head coach from Luis Castro in September.

“Technically we performed well, but we couldn’t win the game,” Pioli said. “We are disappointed to be eliminated from the cup. But we still have two trophies ahead of us and we will do our best.”

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid stars Ronaldo and Al Nassr have two chances of silverware left this season but are already six points behind leaders Al-Hilal after eight games in the Saudi Pro League and have seven points from three games in the group stage of the Asian Champions League.
