Alabama survives Georgia's comeback bid for college football game of the year

The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide built a 28-0 lead over the visiting No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and then survived a furious comeback attempt to secure an exciting 41-34 victory in an early contender for the Save College Football Game of the Year.

A first-half avalanche of offense led by quarterback Jalen Milroe allowed the Crimson Tide to take a 30-7 halftime lead. However, Georgia stormed back in the second half, using its elite defense to string together stops.

Finally, the Bulldogs got the ball back trailing 33-28 with just over 2:30 minutes to play. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck hit wide receiver Dillon Bell for a 67-yard touchdown pass, giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the game. If they could hold on, it would have been the greatest comeback in the history of Georgia's football program.

But Milroe had other plans for the Crimson Tide that night, and there was no denying that.

Trailing 34-33, Milroe grabbed the first snap of the ensuing offensive possession and found 17-year-old freshman, phenomenal wide receiver Ryan Williams, in one-on-one coverage, and Williams did the rest, bringing him in 75 yards to the house.

Alabama, now leading 41-34, had to find a way to stop the defense for the first time since late in the third quarter. Georgia pushed down the field and threatened to tie the game, but Alabama's Zabien Brown intercepted a Beck pass in the left end zone, sealing the game for the Crimson Tide.

A tilt that looked like a blast turned into a thriller. With the win, Alabama moves to 4-0 and could find itself atop the new AP Top 25 entering Week 6.
