Amidst huge expectations, Alia Bhatt's new film Jigra premiered in theaters today. A Telugu version has also been released and we are here to give our insights on its entertainment value in this review. Read on for more.

Story:

Satyabhama Anand (Alia Bhatt) is fiercely protective of her younger brother Ankur Anand (Vedang Raina). He and his cousin travel to Hansi Dao, Malaysia for their academic studies. Unfortunately, Ankur is wrongfully convicted of drug possession instead of his cousin and faces the death penalty. He is imprisoned in a maximum security prison where the law is strict. Alia is aware of her brother's plight and is determined to bring him back to India. Upon arriving in the country, she meets Bhatia (Manoj Pahwa), a retired gangster whose son is also imprisoned. They receive support from Muthu (Rahul Ravindran), a former police officer. Together they devise a jailbreak plan, while Ankur and his fellow prisoners also plan an escape plan. What happens next? Was their plan successful? Did Satyabhama manage to save her brother? The film unfolds the answers to these questions.

Pros:

Alia Bhatt delivers a captivating performance as the courageous sister, whose expressions are particularly evident in the film's climactic action scenes.

Vedang Raina fulfills his role adequately and Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Ravindran contribute well to the overall narrative.

Minus points:

For viewers looking for compelling storytelling, Jigra disappoints with its predictable plot. If you're familiar with the trailer, you might not find anything new in the film. The pace falters and the emotional bond between the siblings is insufficient, which could leave the viewer wanting more.

Additionally, the film lacks memorable dialogue and compelling action sequences, making the running time seem unnecessarily long. Viewers may have to wait for the end credits.

Technical aspects:

Director Vasan Bala has missed a significant opportunity to craft a more compelling narrative. With Alia Bhatt in the lead role, he could have put more emphasis on a stronger story and script. The writing style is unfortunately inadequate for this emotional and action-packed genre.

Swapnil S. Sonawane's cinematography is effective in setting the right mood, but editor Prerna Saigal could have cut several scenes for better flow. Achint Thakkar's music also misses the mark in enhancing the film's impact, even if the production quality remains decent. Telugu dubbing is fine.

Verdict:

Overall, Jigra is a boring action drama that lacks emotional depth and tension. Apart from Alia Bhatt's decent performance, there isn't much to praise. The film lacks originality and technical finesse, making it easy to skip it and prefer more appealing alternatives instead.
