Alumni: Former first-rounder and QMJHL champion plays first NHL game with Utah

Due to long-term injuries to key defensemen John Marino and Sean Durzi, the Utah Hockey Club has announced that it has called up right defenseman Maveric Lamoureux from Tuscon (AHL).

The 20-year-old Lamoureux was the Arizona Coyotes' 28th pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

Since making the jump to professional hockey this season, he has really made a breakthrough as a primary defensive player with three points (2+1) in his first four AHL games.

He was cut from the NHL team before the final preseason game as he was recovering from shoulder surgery the previous two seasons. He went pointless in three preseason games, but Utah won two of the three games in which he played.

Last season, Lamoureux played his last of four QMJHL seasons – all with the Drummondville Voltigeurs – which was capped off by winning a QMJHL championship – a season in which he had a game-high 33 points (9+24) while averaging just 39 points Career value of his career earned games as the team's assistant captain.

Lamoureux scored 83 points (19+64) in his 152-game junior career and also represented Canada at the World Juniors last season as an alternate captain, recording three points (1+2) in five games.
