Andrew Garfield remembers the awkward moment when he and Florence Pugh didn't hear “cut” while filming a love scene

The chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh on the set of their new film was so electric that they didn't even hear the cue to edit while filming a steamy love scene.

During an appearance at the 92nd Street Y on Friday to promote “We Live in Time,” Garfield vividly recalled filming a “very intimate, passionate sex scene” with Pugh in which neither could hear the director scream : “Cut,” which led to an awkward moment.

According to footage posted to social media from the event, Garfield told the audience that this happened during the very first take of the love scene, which was on a “closed set” with just himself, Pugh, the cameraman and the boom operator was rotated.

“The scene becomes more passionate as we choreograph it,” Garfield said. “And we kind of get into it and go a little further than we should just because we've never heard 'Cut.'

John Crowley, the director, was in another room next to the location, Garfield said.

As time went on, “I feel like we both telepathically said to each other, 'This definitely feels like a long take,'” the actor recalls.

According to Garfield, the two only realized their mistake when, in an attempt at politeness, they looked over at the crew members and saw that they were both facing the wall.

While Garfield admitted that the scene took a little too long, he and Pugh both felt “confident” enough in their filming environment to think, “We'll let this go on and just move on.”

“We Live In Time” stars Garfield and Pugh, who are “brought together by a surprising encounter that changes their lives,” according to an official synopsis.

The film will premiere in US theaters on October 11th.
