Barack Obama rally for Kamala Harris in Detroit

Two weeks before the Nov. 5 election, Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris is sending a potentially powerful figure to Detroit today to bolster her standing in Michigan: former President Barack Obama.

The campaign has been particularly tight-lipped about exactly when and where Obama will speak, but as he campaigns on behalf of his fellow Democrat, he is expected to receive significant help in Michigan today. CNN reports that Detroit rapper Eminem will give a speech to the former president.

According to C-Span, the event is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m. and you can watch it above (or tap here) as soon as it begins.

Sending Obama, the first black president, to Michigan could be a big boost for Harris, who is running against former Republican President Donald Trump in the election. Obama easily won the state in 2008 and 2012, with strong support from black voters in Detroit. This year, both campaigns struggled to win over black voters, with Democrats expressing concerns that some black men were leaning toward Trump.

If elected, Harris would be the first woman, the first Black woman and the first person of South Asian descent to become president. Polls show her virtually tied with Trump in Michigan and several other key swing states that will likely decide the election.
