Former President Bill Clinton's suggestion that Georgia nursing student Laken Riley would still be alive if the border had been secured was seen Monday as a humiliation against the Biden-Harris administration.

Clinton campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris in Georgia on Sunday, where he accused former President Trump of deliberately obstructing bipartisan border negotiations because he wanted to make them a campaign issue. Clinton brought up Riley's story and said that if her alleged killer, an illegal immigrant, had been “properly vetted,” she would not have been murdered.

“On the immigration thing, (Kamala) was the only candidate who actually supported a bill that would limit immigration to a certain point every year and then make sure that we give people a decent place to live and that that does not separate children from their fellow human beings. And we did a comprehensive vetting before people came in. Well, Trump has rejected the bill from senior Republicans in the Senate. Clinton said.

“You had a case in Georgia not long ago, right? They made an ad about a young woman who had been killed by an immigrant. Yeah, well, if they had all been properly vetted, it probably would have been “That didn’t happen. But if they are all properly vetted, that won’t happen,” he added.

“Harris’ campaign needs to take offense for putting Bill on the spot,” wrote Abigail Jackson, communications director for Sen. Josh Hawley.

Fox News contributor Guy Benson commented: “He deserves credit for at least admitting that Riley was murdered, and he's right that her accused killer, an illegal immigrant, was not denied by the Biden-Harris administration was properly verified.”

OutKick's Clay Travis wrote: “Bill Clinton says Laken Riley would still be alive if Kamala and Biden had done their jobs checking border crossings.”

“Great arguments against voting for the kind of tragic and deadly policies that Kamala Harris would undoubtedly perpetuate. Thanks, @BillClinton!” Twitchy’s Doug Powers joked.

Donald Trump Jr. agreed: “Even Slick Willy knows that Border Czar Kamala Harris is responsible for letting the illegal immigrant who murdered Laken Riley into our country!”

“Maybe it wasn't a good idea to let the 'big dog' off the leash,” said Phillip Melanchthon Wegmann, White House reporter for RealClearPolitics.

Digital strategist Greg Price noted: “He said this when he was campaigning FOR them. Lmfao.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection told Fox News Digital earlier this year that Jose Ibarra, who was accused of Laken Riley's murder, had been reviewed and would be paroled in 2022. (Fox News Digital)

The suspected killer, Jose Antonio Ibarra, was encountered by Customs and Border Patrol on September 8, 2022, after illegally entering near El Paso, Texas, and was “paroled and released for further processing.” He was also arrested in New York City on August 31, 2023. Riley was killed on February 22nd.
