Bills lost starting QB Josh Allen for one snap due to blue tent rating

Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterback, experienced an injury scare in the fourth quarter against the Houston Texans.

Allen was forced out of the pocket on a 3rd-and-8 play and thrown hard to the turf while attempting a pass. The pass intended for Marquez Valdes-Scantling failed with 6:01 left in the fourth quarter as the Bills trailed 20-17.

Texans defensive tackle Mario Edwards put pressure on Allen, who remained on the ground for over a minute after the play. Allen, whose head appeared to hit the court hard, eventually got up and walked to the sideline under his own power. He appeared to tell the others he was fine and went to the bench, but was then called into the blue medical tent.

While the quarterback was being evaluated for a head injury, Buffalo's defense forced a fumble, allowing Dorian Williams to recover at the Texans' 15-yard line with 4:21 remaining.

The Bills were forced to send backup Mitch Trubisky onto the field for the first down snap. He handed over to James Cook for no gain as Allen hurried out of the tent and back into the action. Buffalo's QB1 threw two consecutive incompletions before a 33-yard field goal clinched the game.

Allen, who posted a quarterback rating of 56.4, performed poorly for most of the 23-20 road loss. He completed 9 of 30 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Allen, 28, played with an injury to his left hand while wearing a protective glove. The Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens also left him in a late turmoil. It was a disastrous day for the Bills and their quarterback, but at least they escaped without suffering a significant injury.
