Blackhawks are moving around several injured players

The Chicago Blackhawks are a little banged up to start the season, but it's nothing the team can't overcome or can't be resolved soon.

The team placed Wyatt Kaiser on injured reserve retroactive to September 19 and placed Artyom Levshunov and Laurent Brossoit on the injured non-roster at the start of the season.

It looks like Kaiser will take one of the two available spots on defense to start the season, but he is currently dealing with an illness. With Kevin Korchinski being released earlier this week and Kaiser gaining more experience as a rookie in the NHL last season, the 22-year-old should play a lot of games this season.

Kaiser played nine games and recorded three assists in the 2022-23 season, but increased his total to 32 games last season and finished with seven assists. He's still eligible to return to the AHL without going through waivers, but one of the best defensive players in the system may be ready for full-time action and doesn't need to be shipped off for further development.

Levshunov probably wouldn't make it to the Blackhawks since he wasn't drafted until 2024 and there is a lot of competition there. While he has the size to step in right away, the team has the opportunity to let him develop in the AHL before throwing him straight into the NHL fire like Korchinski did last season.

Levshunov is recovering from a foot injury after shooting a puck backwards with his right foot before the rookie showcase. When he returns to action, he is expected to break into the Rockford IceHogs lineup and play a lot of minutes.

The Blackhawks are also hoping for a speedy recovery from Brossoit. He could have the biggest impact on Chicago this season considering he is a major improvement in Arvid Soderblom's net. Brossoit gives the Blackhawks a great second option and takes a lot of pressure off Petr Mrazek.

Brossoit is recovering from a right knee injury and is expected to miss too many games to open the season. The Blackhawks should be able to give Mrazek all the starts until he returns.
