Blue Angels Air Show Weather – NBC Bay Area

San Francisco's famous fog could have a negative impact on the always exciting Fleet Week air show with the Blue Angels this weekend.

Event officials said the air show was given the green light Friday after performers were informed of the conditions.

According to the Blue Angels, for a large show the ceiling must be at least 8,000 feet and visibility must be at least 3 nautical miles. Under these conditions, the Blue Angels are able to execute their legendary rolls, loops, passes and diamond formations.

Look it up! Fighter jets and other aircraft will flock to the Bay Area as part of San Francisco Fleet Week. Almost 1 million visitors are expected in the city this weekend. Pete Suratos reports.

Under cloudy skies, cloud cover of at least 4,500 feet would be required for the Blue Angels to perform a low-level show in which the pilots would perform some maneuvers but no rolls.

When the ceiling drops to 1,000 feet, viewers see a flat show. The Blue Angels do not fly when cloud heights are less than 1,000 feet.

The Blue Angels will headline the planned air shows, but there will also be numerous other aerial acts.
