Regardless of what the moment looked like, Nix said the interaction was simply the coach and quarterback expressing their appreciation for each other.

Whatever was said, the Broncos had a strong day. Denver earned a 34-18 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders to improve to 3-2 on the season. The team is now in contention for second place in the AFC West and appears to be a team that could be in contention for a postseason berth.

Nix had his best performance of the season when he went 19 of 27 for 206 yards and two touchdowns. It was the third straight game in which he didn't throw an interception, and he appears to be taking positive steps toward becoming the franchise quarterback for Denver.

The team is hoping he can do that, as they have rotated through quarterbacks at an alarming rate since Peyton Manning retired after the 2015 season. Denver used the No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Nix, but his early appearances raised doubts about his potential at the NFL level.

If he can perform like he did on Sunday, he'll be fine and Payton seems ready to help the young single-caller continue his career.
