Buffalo Bills at Seattle Seahawks, Week 8, second half, open thread

The Buffalo Bills lead 14-3 at halftime against the Seattle Seahawks. The Bills started the game on defense, then went on offense as soon as they got on the field, driving 85 yards down the field for a first possession touchdown.

Perhaps the biggest enemy for both teams this afternoon was the weather, and in typical Seattle fashion, it was miserable. The rain and cold had a devastating impact on ball security in the first half, especially for quarterbacks Josh Allen and Gino Smith. The rain and cold also kept the Seahawks out of the end zone, first because of a Concord-like snap that sailed to the moon after takeoff from the two-yard line, and later when Smith got tangled up with his center and slid dangerously the ground just outside the end zone. That's at least six points lost, if not 14 or possibly 16.

The bad weather didn't dampen Allen's plans, he finished the half 16 of 22 for 152 yards with two touchdowns. And yes, an interception.

Shortly after play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt and analyst Tom Brady discussed Allen's lack of turnovers this season (and the team's only two total fumbles this season), you just knew what was coming. And almost immediately afterward, Allen threw his first interception of the season.

Many will be quick to point a finger one way or the other, but the weather is once again the real culprit. The decision to target wide receiver Amari Cooper after just a few game snaps together is controversial. However, Cooper slipped due to the weather conditions, so Allen's pass had no chance. The loss of the ball immediately felt like really bad news until none other than Josh Allen made a touchdown-saving tackle – which the defense made up for with a goal-to-go stand.

The efforts of wide receivers Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman cannot be overlooked.

Just before halftime, while the Bills were in control, two flags were thrown, resulting in penalties for both teams. In a truly rare penalty moment, Buffalo was assessed a five-yard penalty while Seattle was assessed a 15-yard penalty for hitting Josh Allen. Typically, viewers expect the call to offset penalties and bring down a retry. However, a five-yard penalty (Bills) does not offset a 15-yard penalty (Seahawks). It was a big moment for Buffalo, who scored another touchdown just before heading to the locker room.

Will the Bills face Seinfeld in Seattle and take full advantage of their double-dip opportunity? Here's your open thread for the rest of today's game. As always, be kind to one another and in all things… Go Bills!
