Celtics star launches 741 Performance brand

“Understanding ownership and value is what is important for the next generation of athletes,” Brown said in the release. “It’s time to think differently and be different… come up with new ideas. It’s time to create more value for everyone involved, from athletes to consumers to employees and the communities that support them.”

As for the origin of the 741 brand name, Brown explains that the numbers have both personal and spiritual meanings for the Celtics star.

“741 is more than just a sneaker brand – it is a statement of independence, creativity and ownership,” Brown said in the press release.

Brown, who signed a $304 million contract extension with the Celtics last year, has recently expanded his off-field ventures and dreams of creating a “Black Wall Street” in Boston. In August, Brown launched Boston XChange (BXC), a new nonprofit initiative aimed at creating billions of dollars in generational wealth for communities of color.

The 741 launch also comes after Brown's high-profile dispute with Nike over the summer. The NBA Finals MVP criticized the company after he was left off Team USA Basketball's roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics. With the release of his song and music video titled “Just Do It” with rapper FERG in August, Brown appeared to have responded to the Nike and Olympics debacle.
