Changed gate opening times, road closures planned for race day > Wright-Patterson AFB > Article display


WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will host the Air Force Marathon on September 21. The following gate opening times and road closures are planned:



Area A:
Gate 1A (Commissioner Gate)
Since the gate is part of the marathon route, it will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. After the race, operations will resume at the usual times.



Gate 12A (24-hour gate at Air Force Materiel Command Headquarters)
Gate 12A is open to vehicle traffic 24 hours a day, but vehicles can only access Spruce Way via Redbud Lane. There is no access via Estabrook Road or Sugar Maple Drive. This preserves access to the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, the 88th Security Forces Squadron, Wright-Patterson Medical Center, and the Kittyhawk area.



Gate 18A (Hebble Creek Road)
Gate 18A is temporarily open only to volunteers.



Gate 15A (State Road 844)
Gate 15A is closed as it is part of the marathon route.



Gate at the 445th ALW (formerly Gate 26A, State Route 235)
The gate will be open from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and from 10:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. only for the entry and exit of marathon volunteers and firefighters.




Area B:
Gate 19B (National Road)
Gate 19B will be open as usual, but access to the entire B area will be restricted until the last runner passes Eighth Street. Access restrictions should be lifted by 1:00 p.m., but this is subject to change.



Gate 1B (Springfield Street)
Gate 1B is closed because it is part of the marathon route.



Gate 22B (Gate Interstate 675):
Gate 22B will be open from 4:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for parking during the event.



Publicly accessible parking barriers (only from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
The public has access to the Air Force Marathon areas through the Spinning Road Gate at the intersection of Spinning and Airway Road, the Armory Gate at Harshman Avenue, and Gate 22B, the I-675 Gate (left turns only).



The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force gate on Springfield Street is open from 3:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. for Air Force Marathon and Museum employees, persons with disabilities, volunteers, shuttles, and honorary visitor parking (Parking Lot A or Parking Lot B pass required). After 7:30 a.m., the Museum gate is open to the public during regular hours.



What you should know: Brick Quarters residential area
Roads in the Bricks neighborhood will be closed at 6 a.m. and reopen at 3 p.m. State Route 444 will be closed at 5:45 a.m.



How to get to the Air Force Marathon starting line:
• Exit the building towards Gate 12A
• Continue toward Area B on State Route 444



Public roads are affected
State Road 844
Since State Route 844 is part of the route, there will be four barriers along it.



Closures of Kauffman Road
From 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Kauffman Road will be closed between Wright State University and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The roads are located at the intersections of National Road, McClellan Drive, Van Dorn Lane, Shields Avenue and Zink Road.



Springfield Street East
Eastbound Springfield Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
